April Food Day Aims to Collect More Than 109,000 Pounds of Food for Chicago Southland Communities

WHAT:
United Way of Metro Chicago will host its annual April Food Day on Wednesday, April 25. The luncheon and food drive event will benefit local food pantries across Chicago’s South-Southwest suburban region. The Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau and local hotels, park districts, schools and municipalities throughout the Southland are serving as collection points for donations of non-perishable food items and household goods.

On April 25, all donations will be taken to the Tinley Park Convention Center where they will be sorted, packaged and distributed to Southland food pantries and shelters. United Way of Metro Chicago’s South-Southwest regional team will also be hosting the inaugural April Food Day luncheon, honoring three leaders in the community.

Local food pantries are reporting seeing an increase in the number of households looking for assistance for the very first time. April Food Day will help food pantries across the South-Southwest suburban region meet the rising need in the spring and summer months when other donations typically decrease and supplies diminish.
