The Southland community showed up for April Food Day 2024. Hundreds of volunteers and partners came together at the Tinley Park Convention Center on April 25, 2024. The event is part food drive and part awards luncheon – all in support of food security for our neighbors in the south-southwest suburbs. The region faces high levels of poverty and systemic education, health, and wealth inequities.

United Way of Metro Chicago is committed to supporting basic needs like access to food. Because without food, people can’t thrive.

Thank you to all our generous partners, donors, and volunteers for helping collect thousands of pounds of food to restock pantry shelves.

  • 160+ volunteers collected and sorted donations of food and home products.
  • 100,000+ pounds of food was collected and distributed to 10 Southland food pantries.
  • 380+ guests attended the Awards Luncheon recognizing our individual, business, and community leader honorees.

  • Individual Leadership Award – Angelia Smith, Executive Director, Cornerstone Community Development Corporation
  • Business Leadership Award – Meijer
  • Community Leadership Award – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois

A special thank you to our keynote speaker, Mark Anthony Aguirre, NBA Champion.
