Dr. Joyce Chapman, president of the Far South Chicago Coalition and the leader of United Way of Metro Chicago’s Far South Neighborhood Network, passed away on September 27, 2023.
Joyce was a force and champion for her South Side community and the greater Chicago region. A beloved community activist, she was the founder of the Pullman Community Development Corporation and a member of the Chicago Public Schools Board of Education under Mayor Lightfoot.
She led the Far South Chicago Quality-of-Life Plan process that launched the Far South Chicago Coalition, which was selected to lead our Far South Neighborhood Network in 2022. Under Joyce’s unwavering and passionate leadership, the coalition has been working tirelessly to improve the lives of our neighbors and build thriving communities on the Far South Side.
May her spirit live on in our work together.
“We are fundamentally lifting up the humanity of the people so that we can successfully make a collective impact for the betterment of us all.”
